Fullilove pleads guilty to DUI and careless driving

TUNICA, MS (WMC) - Memphis City Councilwoman Janis Fullilove pleaded guilty Tuesday morning to DUI and careless driving charges in Tunica County.

She has been ordered to pay a $959 fine and attend a 12-hour Mississippi alcohol education program.

Fullilove's 2-day jail sentence has been suspended, but she'll serve six months of unsupervised probation.

Her Mississippi driving privileges have been revoked for 90 days. Although this doesn't affect Fullilove's driving privileges in Tennessee, authorities in Tunica say they will send her paperwork to Tennesseee State officials for review.

Fullilove was arrested in Tunica near the casinos in October of last year. She has been in and out of trouble with the law for driving-related offenses.

"This is one chapter behind me, and I am looking forward now to getting back to work for the people of Memphis," said Fullilove as she left court with her husband.

Since her October arrest, Fullilove has spent a total of 30 days in a live-in alcohol and drug treatment center.

"She is a different person then I think she was when we first met," said Stan Little, Fullilove's attorney, who insists that the councilwoman did not receive any preferential treatment.
