Owners credit pets with fire rescue

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - A Memphis family credits their pets for helping them escape an overnight house fire in Whitehaven.

Fire crews were called to the one-thousand block of Cullenwood Drive just before two Friday morning.  There were flames coming from a home when they arrived.

The homeowners say their three dogs helped alert them of the fire and get them out alive.

Their Labrador, Princess, was barking frantically, so the homeowner went to check on her.  He saw the the dog barking up towards the roof and that's when he noticed the flames.

It took firefighters about 15 minutes to put out the fire, which they believe  was started by an electrical problem.

The Red Cross is helping the family this morning.
