Ex-Memphis police officer convicted in theft case

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - A federal jury has convicted a former Memphis police officer of stealing drugs, money and merchandise from drug dealers.

The jury deliberated part of three days in reviewing charges of money-laundering, extortion, robbery, conspiracy, rights violations, kidnapping, drug dealing and weapons charges against Arthur Sease IV.

Sease, 31, went on trial last week on accusations of participating in or directing 16 robberies of drug dealers between November 2003 and April 2006.

According to The Commercial Appeal, he remains in custody and faces up to life in prison when sentenced by U.S. District Judge Jon McCalla.

More than forty Memphis law officers have been charged with public corruption over the last five years.
