Whirlpool to furlough 330 employees

CLEVELAND, Tenn. (AP) - The Cleveland Whirlpool plant will temporarily lay off 330 employees due to production shifts by the appliance manufacturer.

Whirlpool spokeswoman Jill Saletta says the company announced Thursday some employees would be without work for eight to 12 weeks beginning Feb. 26.

The Cleveland Daily Banner reports the furlough is needed to give other workers the time and space to move equipment out and in of the plant.

The remaining freestanding range production will be consolidated from Cleveland, Tenn. to Tulsa, Okla. Production equipment for built-in ranges will transfer into Cleveland, Tenn. from the Oxford, Miss., plant which closes this year.
