MEMPHIS, TENN. --- The Detroit Lions announced the hiring of Tim Walton as the team's secondary coach Wednesday afternoon. Walton was hired in January 2008 to serve as the University of Memphis defensive coordinator.
"We appreciate the job that Tim did while he was here," said U of M head coach Tommy West. "Our challenge now is to hire a defensive coordinator who can take the defense from where it is now and move it forward."
Walton was serving his second term with the Tigers, having worked with the defensive backs in 2000 and 2001.
The Tigers are scheduled to begin the spring practice session on March 24. The session will run through April 18, which is the date slated for the Blue-Gray game. The site of the scrimmage will be determined at a later date as the Liberty Bowl is undergoing renovations that will prevent the stadium from being available for use.
