MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - Xavier "X-Man" Crawford, the former University of Memphis football star wanted in connection with the rape of an 18-year-old woman, was arrested at a house in North Shelby County on Wednesday night.

Memphis Police sex crime investigators issued a warrant for Crawford's arrest on Wednesday. He was arrested in the 8200 block of Leighton Road around 8:00. Neighbors said the property has no electricity and described it as a drug house.

The sexual assault was reported on Tuesday afternoon, but police say it may have occurred sometime around noon Tuesday at Crawford's residence in the 3600 block of Beech Hollow.

Investigators believe the victim's life was threatened, and though held against her will, she was not seriously injured.

In 2007, Crawford was accused of assaulting former Memphis City Council Member Pat Vander Schaff.

In a jail house interview in July 2007, Crawford said he and Vander Schaff -- a woman 30 years his senior -- were more than friends. "As far as I'm concerned, we're soulmates," he said.
