MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - Memphis police are searching for a man witnesses say shot his neighbor Monday afternoon during an argument about a dog.

The shooting happened near the intersection of Piney Woods and Sumners Wells Road, not far from Memphis International Airport.  The victim later died nearly three miles away at a gas station on East Shelby Drive.

It was a shocking site - the body of a 32-year-old man, covered with a blue tarp, in the passenger seat of his car behind a convenience store at Boeingshire and Shelby.

The man's mother rushed to the scene, too upset to talk.  Other friends and relatives looked on stunned.

Investigators say the man was shot at Sumner Wells and Piney Woods in this neighborhood about 3 miles away.

"Another party attempted to take this subject for medical treatment, however the subject's condition worsened at which time they pulled over at this location and called for an ambulance," said Major C. W. Cox of the Memphis Police Department.

But it was too late - the man was already dead.  Relatives said the person driving the car was the victim's girlfriend.  They were headed to a nearby hospital.

The victim's mother and brother told Action News 5 there was an argument over a dog in the neighborhood, and that's why the man was shot.

"We're trying to verify that," Cox said.

Relatives would not give anymore details about the argument. Police had several people in the back seat of their cars, trying to figure out why the shooting happened.
