MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - While many businesses are cutting workers, the U. S. Government wants to hire them.  Now you can look through more than 40,000 jobs available online.

The federal government advertises USAJOBS.gov as a one stop source where you can find out about and apply for government positions.

When you log on, the site greets you with the smiling face of a job seeker.  On that page, you can type in what kind of job you would like to have or the city where you would like to work.

We typed in Memphis, and got this long list of jobs available in this area, everything from secretarial positions to safety specialists, police officers to civil engineers.

A few more clicks, and you can find out what the jobs pay.  Jobs we spotted in the Memphis area ranged from $18,000 to more than $100,000 per year.

And if you need a little help with your resume, USAJOBS offers that for free. The site also has a place where you can post your resume and receive job alerts.

The USAJOBS website also has a place where you can find out about employment opportunities for students and the disabled, and a place for employers to post their information, too.
