MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC-TV) - The Conference USA Men's Basketball Tournament tipped off Wednesday at the FedEx Forum.

City leaders and businesses love the fanfare and the tourist dollars the CUSA tournament brings to Memphis.

But the conference is slated to move to Tulsa next year, and numerous Bluff City hotels, restaurants and other businesses will likely suffer the loss.

Memphis Convention and Visitors Bureau President Kevin Kane says an aggressive effort is already underway to bring the tournament back to Memphis in 2011.

"Well, you know we love this tournament, and Memphis has been its home for the last few years," he said. "And of course, next year...made a decision to take this to Tulsa next year. And we wish Tulsa well, and we are anxious to get it back in 2011."

Kane says Memphis' chances of getting the tournament back are strong because CUSA does so well in the city.

He says this year's tournament is already on track to bring in a large amount of money. In fact, many out-of-town schools bought more tickets than they were obligated to buy this year.

Kane says he expects Memphis to get an extra tourist boost at the end of March when thousands of fans come for the first NCAA regional contest held in the city.
