MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - One person is dead after a homicide near the Shelby and Tipton County line.
The homicide happened at Tracy Road and Highway 14, which is in Shelby County.
However, Tipton County deputies are in the area of Tracy Road and Portersville Road.
Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is also assisting.
Investigators are combing the area for any possible suspects.
Jenny Penrod still can't believe someone was killed near her neighborhood.
"My 17-year-old son, I don't even want him outside right now,” Penrod said.
Investigators said the homicide happened near the Tipton County and Shelby County line.
“We don’t have anything like that around here,” said Tammy Simonton, who lives nearby. “Everybody’s been really friendly. It’s a very quiet neighborhood.”
Simonton said she moved to Atoka a few months ago because it’s safe and “to get out of Shelby County, to get out of the crime in Memphis.”
Investigators have yet to identify the victim.
"I hope whoever did this turns themselves in or the cops find them, and I just pray for the family because only God can give them closure,” Penrod said.
Investigators are asking anyone with information to come forward.
