MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - The Memphis Express has chosen its four quarterbacks for their upcoming season.
The league’s inaugural Protect or Pick QB Draft was held in Las Vegas on Tuesday night, with all the league’s dignitaries on hand, including Memphis Head Coach Mike Singletary.
The AAF’s 10 teams took part in the 4-round draft on the heels of the league’s quarterback scouting combine that was held last week in San Antonio.
The Express picked 3rd in the first round, selecting Troy Cook from UT-Martin.
“I really like the city," Cook said of Memphis. “Coach Singletary is a legend .I plan to work hard give it my all and make some plays this year.”
Cook starred at UT-Martin. At 6′1″, 215 pounds, he’s shown mobility to make all the throws. He transfered from Florida State where he was the Backup to Jameis Winston and earned a ring on the 2015 National Championship team.
Memphis' other Picks in the QB Draft included former Penn State Star Christian Hackenberg, taken with the 7th pick in the second round. He was a Second Round Pick of the NFL Jets in 2016.
Brandon Silvers went to Memphis in the 3rd Round, and Zach Mettenberger comes to the Express with the 2nd pick in the 4th Round.
The Express opens the inaugural Alliance of American Football season at the Birmingham Iron Feb. 10.
Their Home Opener is Feb. 16th against the Arizona Hot Shots at the Liberty Bowl.
