MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital has received an historic $50 million donation to help fund a new space for family-centered care.
The funding from AbbVie will support the construction of a new Family Commons on the Memphis campus.
It’s the first facility of its kind at St. Jude, designed to be entirely treatment-free that will offer spaces for families to relax, recover and connect
“To have a place to get away and rest, to sleep, to have your kids play games, to have a place where you can talk to other patient families, and just talk about things that maybe people who don’t have a child with cancer understand,” said Cindy Howard, member of the Patient Family Advisory Council.
The Family Commons floor is planned to open in 2020.
