MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - I am pretty sure by now you may be hearing plenty of talk about the potential for snow mid-week and I want to address those concerns.
There is no solid answers at this point because the system is still several days out. Yes, the set-up could produce snow but it could still go either way as there are other factors that have to come together. The exact track of the low and the cold air aligning with the moisture are other intricate details that must play out exactly right. As for accumulation we can’t even begin to speculate on that this far out. I know everyone is ready for all the details but our goal is to be accurate.
Now on to our next big weather system Sunday night and Monday. Confidence is high for rain Sunday night and Monday. The rain is expected to move out by Monday late afternoon, so there shouldn’t be a problem for plans on New Year’s Eve night as most of the rain should be gone by then. Check out Futurecast showing when the bulk of the rain moves out.
Rainfall amounts could be on the order of 1-2″ as some spots could see periods of heavy rain. No severe weather is expected but there could be a strong storm or two with the best chances of strong storms in north Mississippi.
It is going to be a cold start to 2019. Highs New Year’s Eve in the 60s...New Year’s Day 40s!
