MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - A new NFL commercial is all the talk of the town in Memphis.
The high school football squad chanting "We Ready" through the spot is from the Bluff City.
The Roadrunners from Ridgeway High School is the spirited squad featured.
No one was more surprised or delighted to see them than SCS Superintendent Dorsey Hopson.
"No, I actually did not know,” Hopson said. “I was actually sitting down yesterday and watching the football game and said to myself: is that Ridgeway? And I just think our kids are so creative. They're so passionate. They're so energetic!"
Hopson said his face and his phone quickly lit up.
"Apparently, the kids did a YouTube video a couple years ago, and it went viral,” Hopson said. NFL ad agency scouts saw the video, called up the young man who shot it, got permission from school officials, and boom – Ridgeway High became famous.
The NFL is using the ad to get football fans pumped for playoffs.
Nowhere is there more excitement right now than in the 901.
"What happens all the time, there's always a focus on all the things our kids do wrong,” Hopson said. “But I think that just shows that we have so many positive things that are going on with our students every single day, and I'm just so proud of these kids."
If you’re wondering, no, the kids didn’t get paid for the spot, but they definitely have bragging rights.
