MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - It’s winter and staying warm is a challenge for many families.
On Saturday, volunteers with the “Share the Warmth” campaign did their part to change that by giving away more than 500 brand new coats at KIPP Memphis Preparatory Academy. Families lined up early to get the free coats as part of Clothes4Souls and Macy’s.
This year, working in partnership with local charities and service organizations in a number of cities across the U.S., volunteers distributed the much-needed cold weather clothing to men, women and children in need. The Dean of Family Engagement at KIPP Memphis says it’s about providing warmth and hope.
“This event is so important because as a school we know that kids are successful when they have what they need and in the winter what you need is a coat, so we are really glad to be giving out coats to families and students who need them,” said Marisa Mender.
This is the sixth year of the partnership between Macy’s and Clothes4Souls, resulting in a total of 235,000 coats distributed nationwide.
