MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - Memphis City Council honored late President and CEO of the Memphis Area Chamber of Commerce Phil Trenary with the Humanitarian Award at Tuesday afternoon’s meeting.

Trenary is the latest recipient of this award for his work and devotion to the city of Memphis

His daughter Brittney Rowe accepted the award, surrounded by Trenary’s chamber family

“It’s my honor to be here today to represent my family and the family standing behind me on dad’s behalf,” Rowe said. “I know he would have been honored but knowing him he would feel extremely undeserving of such an award.”

Trenary was shot and killed in Downtown Memphis on Sept. 27, 2018.

City Councilman Berlin Boyd nominated Trenary for the award.

This award is given out once a year by city council in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
