MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - While Marc Gasol and Mike Conley are reportedly on the trading block, they aren’t letting the rumors get in the way of their game.
The Grizzlies met the Hornets for the first time this season Wednesday night, and Gasol and Conley each played a great game. But as per usual this season, it wasn’t enough.
Conley scored a game-high 31 points, with 15 of those coming in the 4th quarter.
Gasol notched his 5th career triple-double with 22 points, a career-high 17 rebounds, and 10 assists.
But the Hornets were able to take advantage of a Grizzlies' offensive lull in--you guessed it--the 3rd quarter.
Hornets point guard Kemba Walker put the game out of reach with 12 of his 22 points in the 4th quarter.
The Hornets would pull away late for the 118-107 win.
After the Game, Gasol said he doesn’t want his and Conley’s situation to distract the team from tying to win.
“I don’t ever want to make excuses,” Gasol said. “And now I’m in the middle of it. It’s a loser kind of mentality.”
“We all know what time it is,” forward JaMychal Green added. “It’s business, so we’re just trying to take it one day at a time and see how everything play out.”
The Grizzlies, now 19-29, next host the Sacramento Kings on Friday night at 7 p.m. at FedExForum.
