5 Great Things: Program gives felons second chance

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - Winter blew in for an extended stay, but it’s never too cold for Mid-Southerners' good deeds. Here are 5 Great Things that happened this week.

Convicted felons will get the chance to turn their lives around while learning valuable skills through the LifeLine 2 Success program as they work to restore an abandoned complex in Binghampton.

Memphis Mayor Jim Strickland hosted the 2019 Luminary Awards, honoring 10 women for their contributions to the Memphis community.

Donita Cunningham got the surprise gift of a flag from University of Memphis president, M. David Rudd, after he noticed the U of M flag flying at her home was a bit worn. The note he left with the present said, seeing her flag always makes his day.

Memphis will be in the spotlight Super Bowl Sunday, thanks to Melody, a pup from the Humane Society of Memphis and Shelby County. She will be on Team Fluff in Animal Planet’s Puppy Bowl.

TripSavvy named Memphis the Best Overall Destination for 2019, saying the Bluff City is a hotbed of activity full of new, must-see sites and old establishments turned new again.
