NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) -Pelicans NBA forward Anthony Davis will not be seeking a contract extension and has requested a trade, according to a report by an ESPN NBA insider.
Adrian Wojnarowski said Davis' agent Rich Paul notified The New Orleans Pelicans about the request.
According to Wojnarowski, Paul said Anthony wants to be traded to a team that allows him the chance to win consistently and compete for a championship.
Paul also said that Davis wanted to be honest about his intentions, which is why he made the announcement now.
The Pelicans could offer Davis a super-max contract extension of $240 million this Summer. If he is not traded or if he doesn’t sign an extension, he will become a free agent in the Summer of 2020.
The Pelicans have lost 28 games this season.
Davis is one of the most prolific players in the league. He averages 24 points and 10 rebounds for his career. He was the number one overall pick for the Pelicans in 2012.
Other teams have coveted the player since he entered the league as a missing piece that could help them achieve a level near the teams like the Golden State Warriors.
Davis was pivotal in a playoff upset against the Portland Trailblazers last season.
