MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - Memphians are getting a look at the future of Tom Lee Park soon.
Starting February 2, a new engagement center will open at Beale Street Landing featuring a scale model, animations and a virtual reality experience of the riverfront.
Memphis River Parks Partnership said the center will include a historical overview that will connect a fun experience for locals and visitors.
You can also look forward to a re-design for the new Tom Lee Park which is being led by international architecture and urban design companies Studio Gang and SCAPE.
Students from North and South Memphis have served as designers through the Youth Design Leadership program.
Construction should begin in June and finish by the end of 2020.
Memphis River Parks Partnership will play for the new Tom Lee Park with remaining funds from a $70 million capital campaign.
The grand opening of Tom Lee Park Engagement Center is Saturday from noon to 3 p.m. at Beale Street Landing. The opening coincides with the start of Black History Month, giving Memphians an opportunity to hear about one of Memphis' most prominent African-American heroes.
