JACKSON, MS (WMC) - A bill giving new protection to first responders has passed the Mississippi state senate and now awaits action in the House.
Senate Bill 28-35 says if a firefighter or law enforcement officer can’t work because of a cancer diagnosis, it is considered an occupational illness.
That means the first responder is entitled to all rights and benefits granted by state law.
