MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - University of Memphis Senior Jeremiah Martin is ending his career with a bang. Martin led the Tigers with 31 points Wednesday night in an important win at East Carolina, a place where Memphis lost last year in a game that ultimately cost former head coach Tubby Smith his job.
The former Mitchell High Star scored 20 in the second half to seal the 79-69 win. Martin’s been on a tear lately, averaging more than 28 points per game in the last 5 games on the Road.
His Teammates feel his fire.
“He’s really locked in," center Mike Parks said. "You can just tell by his intensity in his eyes. He tells us, ‘C’mon.' He keeps trying to encourage us to keep going and stuff like that. It’s firing us up, like, ‘alright, we can’t let him down.’ He’s our leader. If the leader says we gotta do this, that’s what we gotta do.”
Parks was not bad himself Wednesday night, a perfect 5-5 for 12 points and 4 rebounds against the Pirates. The Tigers next game comes on the Road at UCF, Saturday 5 p.m.
