MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - A famous rapper is wanted by the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office.
James Baker, better known as BlocBoy JB, is wanted on charges of possession of drugs & drug paraphernalia, convicted felon in possession of a handgun, and for theft of property.
He's supposed to perform as part of the Beale Street Music Festival in a few months.
The 22-year-old Memphis rapper had his first major hit last year with “Shoot”, and the viral dance that went along with it.
“His influence on the Memphis rap scene is incredible,” said Tevin McCinnis, also known as DJ Tev Shakir.
He’s also known in the national rap scene for the song “Look Alive” with superstar Drake that made it into the top five of the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
“I'm somebody who definitely wishes him the best with everything that's going on right now,” Shakir said.
A spokesperson for Memphis in May said they have not made any lineup changes.
Officials are monitoring the situation closely and say they will wait for the legal process to play out before making any decisions.
A spokesperson for the Shelby County Sheriff's Office declined to share the details behind the incident that lead to the latest charges against Baker.
He was previously arrested for possession of drugs with intent to sell, evading arrest and theft. He served time for those charges.
