Shelby County deputies complete written portion of psych reassessments, move on to face-to-face interviews

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office says they are halfway through their psychological reassessments after county officials learned an unlicensed doctor performed pre-employment screenings for hundreds of county workers.

200 SCSO deputies must be re-evaluated, costing county more than $40K

In total, 650 Shelby County employees were forced to undergo re-evaluations, including 214 deputies and 188 jailers.

As of Monday, the sheriff’s office says their employees have completed phase one of the reassessment -- a written exam -- and phase two, which includes a face-to-face interview, is underway.

Officials say more than 600 Shelby County employees must be re-evaluated

If a deputy fails the reassessment, they could lose their job. The department has until April 18 to complete the testing.

The county is expected to spend more than $130,000 before the reassessments are complete.
