MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - A 24-hour trucking terminal will soon be moving into an Oakhaven neighborhood.
Memphis City Council approved an appeal from SAIA to move their operations to a piece of property near a residential neighborhood near the airport.
The Land Use Control Board initially denied the site plan last October.
WMC has covered this story from the very beginning as neighbors as well as Habitat for Humanity – which has more than 60 homes in the area – fought to keep the trucking company out over safety and health concerns.
"What these people have done tonight is destroyed a number of people, their lives, their neighborhood and I'm just overwhelmed with pain,” said resident Proteon Paulk.
However, a majority of council members say SAIA represents much needed jobs for the city.
The company employs nearly 300 people.
