Severe weather sweeps through Mississippi

JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - Earlier Saturday afternoon a severe thunderstorm warning was underway for most of Mississippi.

Viewers sent in pictures that show parts of Mississippi experiencing significant damage.

The first video captures strong straight line winds that were on surveillance in the Wood Bridge subdivision near the Reservoir area in Brandon.

Several viewers sent in damage from a severe storm that moved through Rankin county.

A tree falling within just feet of campers and vehicles at Allen’s Creek Resort , and lightning striking a tree.

Meanwhile, it was Columbus that got hit the hardest. Authorities say a tornado touched down in the city and it did some major damage.

Columbus residents also experienced damage to cars, and several homes.

One person was killed and and between 5 and 13 people have suffered non-life threatening injuries.
