MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - Memphis police have arrested a suspect after a man was shot and killed in Hickory Hill on Monday night.
The shooting happened on Crepe Myrtle Drive, just south of Winchester Road, shortly before 9:20 p.m.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
Tuesday afternoon, police arrested 27-year-old Kaylon Nelson.
According to the affidavit, the victim was identified as Mario Tabron.
According to several witnesses, the shooting happened after a domestic situation between Tabron, the victim’s girlfriend, the girlfriend’s sister, and Nelson.
The witnesses said they saw Tabron and Nelson involved in a verbal argument over the ongoing domestic situation, and the witnesses said they heard one of the women refer to Nelson as a brother.
At some point Nelson brought out a firearm. Tabron and Nelson began to walk towards each other and Nelson fired a shot at the victim.
Nelson and the two women got into a vehicle and drove off.
Later, a sergeant was contacted by the stepfather of Tabron’s girlfriend and Tabron’s sister. The stepfather said he wanted to meet with the sergeant so that Nelson could turn himself in.
Nelson also brought the firearm that he used to kill Tabron and turned the weapon over to officials.
He then admitted to shooting and killing the victim.
Nelson is charged with second-degree murder.
