MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - Arkansas lawmakers have approved a bill to raise the marriage age to 17 with parental consent.

The current law allows 17-year-old boys and 16-year-old girls to marry if their parents or guardians agree to it.

However, with a judge’s approval, there is no minimum age to marry if a girl is pregnant.

The bill is now headed to Governor Asa Hutchinson’s desk for a signature.
