MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - Monday marks the kick off of a special book drive in partnership with the YMCA of Memphis and the Mid-South.
From now until May 23, the public can help ensure every child gets a book they love.
The book drive is part of a new program called "Y on the Fly."
The idea is to take all the things loved about the YMCA and put all of it into a van, which will travel to neighborhoods that don’t have their own YMCA.
The vans are decked out with books, games, even an inflatable pool to teach kids about water safety.
On Thursday, hundreds of people gathered at Graceland to help launch “Y on the Fly.”
These vans will not only provide kids in under-served neighborhoods with lots of fun activities, but also be a part of an effort to increase childhood literacy rates.
Starting today, the community can help make sure every child who visits one of these "Y on the Fly" vans this summer walks away with at least one book.
All books must be new and be appropriate for children ages 12 and under.
You can drop the books off at any YMCA location.
