MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - Some of the NFL’s best players aren’t selected on day one of the NFL Draft.
First round picks may get all the praise and adulation of the weekend, but day two is just as important for NFL teams to get right.
Rounds two and three will take place in Nashville on Friday night, beginning at 6 p.m., after an explosive first round Thursday.
Three Mississippi State defenders--Jeffery Simmons, Montez Sweat and Jonathan Abram--were the first Mid-South players off the board. But there should be plenty to come.
Ole Miss' star wide receivers were, somewhat surprisingly, not selected on day one. AJ Brown and DK Metcalf are regarded by some as the two best wideouts in the entire draft, and with two wide receivers taken Thursday, their time should be soon.
And then there's Darrell Henderson of Memphis. The Tigers running back is regarded by some as the best running back on the board.
Just one running back was selected Thursday (Josh Jacobs of Alabama), so teams hungry to improve their rushing attack could soon pounce on Darrell Henderson.
There's even more Mid-South players who could work their way into the second or third rounds, including:
University of Memphis
- Tony Pollard (RB)
- Trevon Tate (DL)
- Greg Little (OL)
- Demarkus Lodge (WR)
- Dawson Knox (TE)
- Jamal Peters (CB)
- Elgton Jenkins (C)
