MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - Memphis police officers are investigating after a woman was killed outside a Downtown apartment complex.
The woman was found dead near the Crescent Bluffs Apartments at the corner of Kentucky Street and Virginia Avenue.
Witnesses said the woman was found in the parking lot.
She has been identified as LaTarica Stripling.
Police said they first responded to a shots fired in the area around 11 p.m. Thursday.
"I'm really at a loss for words. It was such a heartbreaking situation," Erica Webber, friend.
Erica Webber says the victim was LaTarica Stripling, an entrepreneur and mother of three.
"She was a joyful person. She loved to dress, she loved her kids.. that was the first priority, she was family-oriented. She was basically an overall good person," said Webber.
Police say officers responded to a shooting call Thursday night at Florida Street and Crump Blvd. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
Friday morning, remnants of the incident remained in the parking lot. Witnesses say Stripling's children were there and neighbors stepped in to help.
"I saw about four police cars. So to see four police cars pulling up at your living space, that's an alarming thing," said Demetrius Blayde, neighbor
Investigators say preliminary details indicate the shooting was a domestic violence situation.
According to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, more than 77,000 incidents were flagged as domestic-related in 2017 and resulted in 81 murder victims.
“We need to put this person away for doing this to her because I thought I was going to get to grow old with her, you know,” said Webber.
There’s no word on a possible suspect at this time.
