MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - The Shelby County Land Use Control Board has approved a special permit for a downtown Memphis two-tower, mixed-use hotel and office space.
The board approved the request Thursday for the proposed The Clipper near the old Gibson Guitar Factory on the south side of MLK between Second and B.B. King.
The area only allows for buildings with a maximum of eight stories, but the board approved the request for a 19-story hotel and 25-story office building.
The towers will stand taller than One Peabody Place and One Commerce Square.
