STARKVILLE, MS (WMC) - A seven-run first inning was not quite enough for Memphis to earn an upset win in Starkville.
The Tigers jumped out to the huge lead before Mississippi State ever stepped to the plate, but the Bulldogs scratched and clawed their way back.
A first inning hit parade by the Tigers made it 7-0, including a two-run single by Cale Hennemann.
The Bulldogs would take the lead back by the sixth inning before the Tigers added two more in the 7th off the bat of Payton Marshall.
But Bulldogs slugger Elijah MacNamee would put the Dawgs back on top for good with a two-run double in the eighth.
Cole Gordon earned the win for the Bulldogs as he shut the door.
Memphis will return home this weekend for their final home series of the season as they host Cincinnati.
Meanwhile, MSU heads to Oxford for a weekend series with their blood rivals in Ole Miss.
