MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - A retired police officer is accused of killing a man at a furniture store in Memphis Thursday.
Police said Timothy Saunders, who now works as a truck driver, got into an argument with American Freight Furniture manager Thomas Hartman over truck loading.
Police said Saunders walked out of the warehouse and returned with a gun, killing Hartman, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
The shooting happened around 12:30 p.m. Thursday at the store on Highway 64 near Kate Bond Road.
Officers said Saunders left the scene in his 18-wheeler but was taken into custody at Highway 64 and I-40.
He is charged with first-degree murder.
A spokesman with Clarksville, Tennessee Police Department says Saunders is a former police officer. He was hired in March 1989 and promoted to sergeant in 2001. He retired from the department in November 2017.
