Video captures man jumping fence, stealing yard equipment

Yard equipment stolen from shed

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - Memphis Police need help identifying a man who broke into a shed near Midtown, stealing everything he could get his hands on.

“He was coming down the alley. The video picked him up. Got a good, clear shot of him,” said John Osteen, victim.

Video shows a man walking into a backyard near Sledge Avenue and Bellevue Boulevard. He puts down two packages then walks over to the fence in another yard.

“Broad daylight, but it happens in daylight. They can see,” said Osteen.

John Osteen who lives at the home says this crook saw just fine.

The home security cameras caught the man climbing over the fence. He walks up to the shed and removes a weed trimmer and gas can. Then, he puts them over the fence.

The video picked up the sound of them dropping.

Then, the man tries to put the lawn mower over the fence. It was apparently too heavy.

He also may have heard Booster barking.

"Booster started barking inisde. Generally I just look outside, but I didn't see anything," said Osteen.

So, he figured it was a squirrel or a dog that Booster was barking at.

The video shows the man walk back to the shed and carefully close the door, then he climbed back over the fence.

Osteen says the two FedEx packages the man had came from the front porch of nearby house on Central Avenue.

Police returned the packages to the home.

"It makes you think a little more about your surroundings and your property protecting what you have," said Osteen.

If you recognize the man, call Crimestoppers at 901-528-CASH.
