Dog rescued from 8-foot manhole in West Memphis

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - A dog is safe after he was rescued from a manhole in West Memphis Monday.

The dog was found on South Avalon Street Monday afternoon.

Animal control went inside the 8-foot-deep manhole to rescue the Shepherd Mix named Chigger.

Chigger, named because he was covered in them during his rescue, had several broken nails, and a few cuts.

He is 10 months old and will be at the West Memphis Animal Shelter for the next week to allow time for someone to claim him.

If he’s unclaimed he will be put up for adoption.
