MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - The Memphis Grizzlies received the second pick in Tuesday night’s NBA Draft Lottery.
The lottery is the annual pre-draft selection to find out where non-playoff teams will select in the draft.
Memphis finished the season tied with two other teams for the 7th-worst record in the league and had just a 26% chance at a top-4 pick.
But Memphis wasn’t even the big winner of the draft. That was New Orleans, who jumped to the top overall pick, which is highly expected to be Duke star Zion Williamson.
A likely choice for number two could be Murray State’s Ja Morant. The point guard could become the heir apparent to Mike Conley, who is likely to be traded this offseason.
“I’s [going to] just try to come in and make an immediate impact,” Morant said. “Not only on the court but off the court as well, in the community and try to do anything I can and be a positive role model that kids can look up to.”
The NBA Draft is June 20.
