GERMANTOWN, TN (WMC) - A controversial new cell phone tower near a Germantown elementary school could be moved away--but parents are still upset it’s nearby.
The tower developer said the structure could be moved an additional 105 feet away from Dogwood Elementary, putting it at least 250 feet from the school.
But Monday night, parents and neighbors told the board of mayor and aldermen they still have concerns.
"I would urge you to vote against putting the cell tower on Dogwood because of the negative impacts it will have on me, my family, my neighbors and my friends," one resident said.
Germantown city leaders said the tower is needed to fill in gaps in cell phone and emergency services coverage. Federal rules prevent local governments from denying tower permits for health concerns.
