CHICAGO, Ill. (WMC) - In just a little more than a month we’ll know for sure who the Memphis Grizzlies will take with their number 2 pick in the NBA Draft.
But, all indications are they already know who their man is, and he was on display at the NBA Draft Combine in Chicago. Murray State Point Guard Ja Morant held back while other prospects held workouts.
Morant, a First Team All-American, is one of the select few who don’t need to show out for the scouts.
He’s already put in his work with the Racers, averaging 24.5 points, 10 rebounds, and 5.7 assists a game in leading Murray State to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
At 6′3″, Morant has explosive athleticism and superior court vision. He’s being compared favorably to Sacramento’s De’Aaron Fox and Atlanta’s Tre’ Young with his ability to score as well as get his teammates involved.
“I like the comparison with Tre," Morant said. "He’s a really good shooter. De’Aaron, he sees the floor well and it’s an honor to be compared to those guys. You probably have a little nerves, like this is my first time and an NBA team at that. It just allowed me to get to know the organization better and for them to know me outside of basketball.”
While in Chicago, Morant interviewed with the top 3 teams in the Lottery: the Pelicans, the Grizzlies, and the New York Knicks.
NBA Draft Express’ Jonathan Givony reports the Grizzlies made it known Morant is their man at 2. The NBA Draft is June 20.
