St. Jude awarded $34 million to study flu

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - St. Jude Children's Research Hospital has been awarded $34 million to research how the flu virus can influence immune system development.

Dr. Paul Thomas says there is evidence that a person's first flu virus encounter "imprints" on their immune system.

The study will include 12 medical and research centers across the world.

The $34 million grant comes from the National Institutes of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.
