MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - Orion Federal Credit Union is moving its headquarters into the former Wonder Bread building on Monroe Avenue in Memphis.

The company announced the move Tuesday that will put them in the Edge District, a place Orion hopes can be turned around.

“When considering a new location for our headquarters, we saw an opportunity to benefit Memphis and the communities we serve,” CEO Daniel Weickenand said. “A strong city core can create a ripple effect for development and energy throughout the region. We’re proud to be a part of that with this move.”

Orion's nearly 150 employees will move to the new location from their old HQ at 7845 Highway 64.

The Wonder Bread factory, built in 1921, has sat vacant since 2013. Orion plans to keep the original structure of the factory and add a third story as well as improved exterior.

Previous ideas for the factory included turning it into apartments, which was part of a $70 million plan to revamp the Edge District.
