ATLANTA, Ga. (WMC) - Former DeSoto Central High School star Austin Riley is the National League Rookie of the Month for May.
Even veterans would be hard-pressed to put up the numbers this first year star is doing with the Atlanta Braves. Riley hit .356 with 7 home runs, and 20 RBI despite just playing in 15 games.
He was called up May 15 from Double-A Jackson, Mississippi, and has been on a tear ever since. In all, Riley has appeared in 17 games with 22 hits in 67 at-bats for a .328 average with two doubles, eight home runs and 22 RBIs. He has a .746 slugging percentage.
