JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ark. (KAIT/KARK) - Governor Hutchinson visited Jefferson County on Tuesday to examine the flooding in the area.
Officials in the county expect the Arkansas River to crest in the area on Thursday.
Little Rock television station KARK reports that the governor toured the Island Harbor area as the water sits near the rooftops of homes.
“As soon as that water starts diminishing, the critical thing is to get a good damage assessment for our report to the president,” Hutchinson said in a meeting on Tuesday.
Authorities believe about 500 homes have been affected by the flooding in the county since last week.
County officials have opened up emergency shelters in the Pine Bluff and Wright areas.
