Deputies arrest suspect who fled traffic stop in stolen car

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - Shelby County deputies have a suspect in custody they say fled a traffic stop earlier in the day.

According to the sheriff’s office, the suspect took off in a stolen vehicle during an attempted traffic stop around 2:15 Monday afternoon.

Officers stopped him and he took off running.

There were reports he was in the Parkway Village neighborhood firing shots.

“The police started flying down Homewood here down Dothan where we live and went toward the ditch.” One woman, who did not want to be identified, said. “They had their guns drawn like they had cornered something.”

Latavia Keaton couldn’t get to the house where her 4-year-old son was in daycare.

“I was very shocked, very shocked," she said.

He was later arrested in a home near the corner of Dothan and Honeywood.

Deputies recovered the vehicle near Castleman and Teal.

The suspect has been identified as 21-year-old Willie Love.

Keaton is happy it ended peacefully.

“With everything that’s going on now, with everything that happened a week ago, all I can do is pray for the city of Memphis.”

Love is facing several charges including aggravated assault, no driver license, evading arrest, reckless endangerment, disregarding stop sign, tampering with evidence, and more.
