EARLE, Ark. (WMC) - A man is facing murder charges after three people were found dead in a house fire in April.
The bodies were discovered in Earle, Arkansas April 15.
Kendrick Jones, Chassidy Brown and her 5-year-old son Josiah were all found inside the burning home. A medical examiner determined both adult victims were shot before the fire was set.
Detectives were able to locate Ezekiel Lindsey, Brown’s former boyfriend, and determined he was the suspect.
Lindsey was arrested Saturday in Brinkley and taken to Crittenden County where he faces three counts of capital murder.
“I must say it took a whole lot of weight off my shoulder when I received that call,” said Alonzo Smith, Chassidy’s father.
The Crittenden County Sheriff’s Office says while both adults had gunshot wounds Brown and Josiah died from the fire.
“Who would want to lock a 5-year-old in a burning house so he couldn’t get out,” Smith said.
Alonzo wishes he could’ve saved them, especially little Josiah who he calls his best friend.
“He would pop up on the side of my bed sometimes and say ‘Papaw, you know what? I love you,’" Smith said. “That meant the world to me. I’d hug him and say ‘I love you too, Jo.’ I’ll never have that again.”
Lindsey will be back in court July 19.
