MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - Two men were arrested after a child was found unresponsive.
Shelby County deputies found the toddler unresponsive in a swimming pool around 7 p.m. on Snoal Cove Monday night.
The three-year-old was revived by her father and rushed to the hospital where she is in critical condition.
Marlon Washington, 49, and Edward Cammile, 57, were arrested and charged with possessing meth, cruelty to animals, and other offenses.
Neighbors say they knew very little about the couple.
“Very strange. They never talk to anybody. They would never mingle. They would just go in and out. Never seen the kid I think I saw the kids one time,” O’Neil Jones said.
Jones said he heard the screams from his front yard.
“Somebody is hollering and whaling out there. Then all the sudden, we saw the ambulance come and they were dangling the baby, putting him into an ambulance,” he said.
The affidavit noted investigators were disturbed by the allege in the pool and seeing a pacifier near the water.
Investigators characterize the inside of the home as “hot and very dirty” they found dogs “locked in kennels with feces in there without food or water." Another dog found outside “severely emaciated and covered in ticks”.
In the master bedroom, investigators found methamphetamine and a pipe in plain sight.
Five days prior, deputies where at the home. It was one of several domestic calls they responded to within the past year.
Last Wednesday, after a violent fight the affidavit says deputies found a pipe in Washington’s pocket and white residue inside.
Washington was out on bond Monday night for his drug paraphernalia and domestic assault charges.
A second child was also found inside the home and taken to the hospital to be evaluated.
It is unclear how the child ended up in the pool.
