UConn reportedly leaving AAC for Big East

(WMC) - The AAC will reportedly lose a charter member this Thursday.

That’s when a formal announcement of UConn returning to the Big East is expected. Big East Presidents formally approved to invite and accept UConn as a member this morning.

The move affects all Huskies sports except football. The UConn men won a basketball national championship as a member of the American five years ago. It was a year after the old Big East, of which the Huskies were a charter member, broke up.

While the women’s program continues to thrive, UConn has not done nearly as well lately on the men’s side, and want a return to their regional roots.

UConn football has Floundered in the American. The plan there is to go the independent route.

The fee for UConn to leave the AAC is $10 million--more, if done sooner than the two year exit window.
