MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - We’re under two months until kickoff of the college football season, and early prognostications have the Memphis Tigers sitting in tremendous position to have a fabulous year.

The latest round of prognosticators carries a bit more weight. ESPN’s Football Power Index is projecting the Tigers to win 9 games this year, or, 8.9 to be exact.

The Power Index is a bit more conservative than SB Nation, which picks the U of M to be favored in every game this season. That’s quite a feat, considering Memphis lost two of its top offensive stars to the NFL in Darrell Henderson and Tony Pollard.

Returning, though, are 1,000-yard rusher Patrick Taylor, Jr., 3,000-yard passer in quarterback Brady White, and a 1,000-yard receiver in DaMonte Coxie, plus a defense with a highly touted new staff and more depth to play with.

The Tigers open the Season against Ole Miss August 31 at the Liberty Bowl.
