Woman killed in ATV crash; children found home alone

Children found unattended after ATV crash

FAYETTE COUNTY, Tenn. (WMC) - A woman was found dead after an ATV crash in Fayette County.

The Fayette County coroner said the woman was found Wednesday morning on Old Solomon Mill Road.

Investigators say 28-year-old Felisa Ferguson died in an ATV accident along Old Solomon Mill Wednesday.

"I just saw the vehicles going down there, the vehicles, the ambulance and the cars,” said Linda Lee, neighbor.

Linda Lee was visiting her parents when she saw emergency responders heading to the scene.

She said it’s not uncommon to see people riding on ATVs in the area.

"In this area it’s pretty popular because it’s the country area, you know, and pretty much they own those,” said Lee.

When investigators responded to the scene they found Ferguson and the ATV in a creek underneath the roadway. They say Ferguson was unresponsive and had several scratches on her body. Authorities later went to Ferguson's home and found her two young children left unattended in the house. The children were taken to Department of Children Services.

"My condolences go out to the family, I pray everything is okay,” said Lee.

We also went to the home where Ferguson lived. We saw several kids’ toys outside of the house. Lee says she hopes the accident is a reminder for people to be safe while on the road.

"Just be cautious at all times, that's even with driving cars or anything, just be careful,” said Lee.

A relative says the family is still trying to figure out what could have caused this accident to happen.
