MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - A man has died after being shot in Hyde Park, according to Memphis Police.
Officers responded to the shooting near a convenience store in the 1100 block of Springdale Street.
The victim was taken to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
Charles Jackson was inside the corner store, visiting a friend who works there, when he heard gunshots outside.
“She was cooking. When the shots rang out outside she still was cooking. I said, ‘don't you hear that shooting?’ She said, ‘yeah, that's normal,’” said Jackson.
The bullets soon hit the store, shattering a window and sending Jackson to the floor looking for cover.
“So I grabbed her and through her on the floor and lay on top of her,” said Jackson.
“While it was going on , I heard the noise so I came outside and I seen people running, people with guns and they were shooting,” said Dale Harris, witness.
The store was once called "Top Stop Shop.” It’s where 17-year-old Dorian Harris was allegedly shot and killed by the store clerk after stealing a beer last year.
Police have not released any suspect information in this case.
Neighbors are getting all too comfortable with crime scene tape decorating their North Memphis neighborhood and helicopters circling their homes.
“It’s getting dangerous around here, our elder people are afraid to come out to walk the street, we afraid to come out at night and it’s something that’s got to be done,” said Willie Nason, resident.
This is an ongoing investigation.
